Andrzej Grzywacz received a scholarship from the Minister of Science and Higher Education. Minister of Science and Higher Education scholarships are awarded to outstanding young researchers who conduct high-quality research and have impressive scientific achievements on an international scale. Andrzej has been awarded with three years scholarship.
Dominika Wyborska has been granted a scholarship of Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Domnika is a master’s student in the Chair of Ecology and Biogeography. She is interested in molecular ecology and phylogeny reconstruction of certain groups of plants and animals. Her master’s thesis concern barcoding of European species of Fanniidae of forensic interest.
Werner Ulrich joined the Editorial Board of Journal of Biogeography. He will hold position of a Subject Editor. Journal of Biogeography is a prestigious journal which deals with all aspects of spatial, ecological and historical biogeography.
Research project entitled „Integrative systematics of Australian flesh flies (Diptera: Sarcophagidae)” was accepted for financing under the 2015-16 Research Grant round of the Australian Government’s National Taxonomy Research Grant Programme (principal investigator: prof. James Wallman, Wollongong University). Krzysztof Szpila, as one of the three joint investigators, will be responsible for studying of larval morphology of Sarcophagidae and systematics and taxonomy of subfamily Miltogramminae.
Andrzej Grzywacz joined the Editorial Board of Brazilian Journal of Entomology (Revista Brasileira de Entomologia). For the biennium 2015/2016 he will hold a position of an Associate Editor.
Prof. Ulrich received a honour medal of the State fire department for long-lasting support.
Prof. Werner Ulrich had a lecture on ‘East African bird communities in fragmented landscapes’ and was a chair of the macroecology discussion group at the biannual Conference of the International Biogeography Society held in Bayreuth, Germany.
Piotr Olszewski has been granted with a scholarship for doctoral candidates “Krok w przyszłość” from the the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. The scholarship is intended for implementation of the PhD project: “Digger wasps (Hymenoptera: Crabronidae, Sphecidae) in the cultural landscape of river valleys in northern Poland”. The ongoing research will be carried out in a cooperation with the company “Quercus” and organizations for the protection of Apidae.
Dr. Andrzej Grzywacz as a principal investigator and Dr. Marcin Piwczyński as an investigator received financial support for realization of scientific project “Revision and analysis of preimaginal stages morphology, identification based on molecular methods and developmental models for European species of Fanniidae (Diptera) of medico-legal importance”. The main aim of this project is to provide tools that will allow for application of preimaginal stages of Fanniidae revealed in real cases for medico-legal purposes. This will lead to identification keys for larvae, molecular identification, as well as developmental models permitting the age estimation of preimaginal stages.
